Chastity
by Jeffrey Hilton
Second to the topic of marriage, chastity seems to be one of the most spoken about topics to single adults. From the time they are young, singles are given rules and guidelines to help them obey the law of chastity. When they reach adulthood they are no longer expected to avoid the opposite gender and wonder how far their new boundaries reach.
They wonder how far they can go with the opposite sex without being unchaste. Some wait until the altar of the temple to do so much as kiss. Others come up with so-called loopholes allowing them to justify violating the law of chastity. Some such attempts may include Levi loving, Peeping, Freak dancing, Vegas weddings, and NCMO.
Levi loving is where two people who are fully clothed imitate the sex act by rubbing their pants, or levies together. They tell themselves they aren’t violating the law of chastity because skin isn’t touching skin. This is of course a sexual act and goes against the law of chastity.
Peeping is where a group of guys and girls sit around naked, admiring each other’s bodies. They believe that because no action is taking place they are still within the law of chastity. In reality they are exposing their bodies and causing themselves and others to be aroused. By doing so they break the law of chastity.
Freak dancing takes partner dancing to a whole new level. A guy and girl, often a girl and another girl, rub up against each other suggestively to a fast tempo. This is like Levi loving except that its participants stand. For reasons similar to Levi loving and peeping this breaks the law of chastity. Many girls have learned to avoid dances where this takes place. Some guys have felt the need to talk to their bishop after attending such dances.
A Vegas wedding as I’ve named it is a marriage that takes place in Las Vegas over a weekend. The participants wed so they can have sex without breaking the law of chastity. At the end of the weekend they get an annulment and prepare to marry their next sex partner in Las Vegas the next weekend. Though it might be a loophole to the law of chastity, it mocks it as well as the sanctity of marriage.
NCMO stands for Non- committal Make-Out. With no strings attached two people can kiss all they want. Two people engaging in this activity might be tempted to do more than just kiss, causing them to break the law of chastity. The most dangerous aspect is that NCMO partners might be strangers who meet online first. Someone could force you to go farther than you want to and because of your reason for meeting it could be your word against theirs.
